Between Here and Home
2024 - Ongoing
Leaving one broken home to build another one in exile, this project began with self-portraits as I tried to navigate life in a new place and the loss of the previous one.
I asked my father to send me objects from my past, family photos, books, and keepsakes, items that hold memories and help me feel connected as I create a new home.
In France, I’ve found room to grow, but the feeling of being caught between two worlds lingers. This duality inspired me to connect with other women who, like me, are navigating the space between past and present.
Through intimate conversation with other women in exile and while photographing them in their new home, I found we share a duality: not fully belonging to the place we left, nor entirely to where we are now.
Yet, we carry the strength to rebuild, to connect, and to find beauty in the in-between. These women and I explore how personal objects, a book of Hafez, childhood videos, a handmade pullover, anchor us to our roots while giving us hope to reimagine our lives.
This project celebrates our shared human experience, the search for belonging and home, the act of leaving and re-creating, and the hope to rebuild again. It is a testament to resilience and the compassion that fills the spaces we create for ourselves and one another.
