Between Here and Home
2024 - Ongoing

Leaving one broken home to build another in exile,

this project began with self-portraits as I tried to navigate life in a new place and the loss of the previous one.

In France, I have found room to grow, but the feeling of being caught between two worlds lingers. This sense of in-between inspired me to connect with other women in Marseille who, like me, are navigating the complexities of exile, neither fully belonging to the place we left nor entirely feeling at home where we are now.

Through portraits, landscapes, and fragments of daily life, this project explores how we attempt to recreate a sense of home. A drawing, a childhood photo, a cigarette from our home country all act as bridges to our past lives, keeping us connected to our roots while giving us strength to rebuild. The places we live now, whether an apartment or a city that still feels unfamiliar, become sites of both longing and adaptation.

This project celebrates our shared human experience, reflecting on resilience, memory, and the quiet ways we carve out belonging in unfamiliar spaces. It is a testament to the strength found in the in-between, in the act of leaving and rebuilding, and in the hope that home is not only a place but something we carry within us.
